Trainers

Master Tan founded VUW Kickboxing in 1988 and was both Mark and Jon's first trainer. Tan was a South Thailand Champion and has trained fighters in Thailand, China, Malaysia, Singapore, England and New Zealand. Many of these have gone on to win championships in their weight divisions.

Tan currently lives in Hamilton, where he runs MT's sister gym Waikato Thai Kickboxing. He regularly travels to Wellington to give seminars and guidance to Mark, Jon and MTI's members. With over 50 years of high level experience in the sport, MTI is a part of the Sit Tan Family.

I started training in 1991 and lived in Thailand while training as a fighter and I love to train people in Muay Thai, we built MTI so that people would have a world class facility to train at.

It's not all about the fighters; while we have produced many champions, we are really focused on people learning the art of Muay Thai and becoming stronger and fitter and training is a great way to reduce stress and it's a lot of fun.

But if you do decide that you want to fight I've produced many top-ranking fighters as well as national and regional champions and we can take you as far as you want to go to NZ champion and beyond.

I focus on fight strategy and fighter development programs across both the Muay Thai and MMA classes.

I like to work with the general class and like to help the beginners getting a solid grounding. I also like to take the warm ups at an intense level.

I started training in 1991 and I've also contributed to the success of many top-ranking fighters. I like to teach the theory behind the techniques and break each movement down into smaller segments so that they're easily understood and most of all make the classes fun.

I've been training boxers since the 1980s, working with many top level fighters over the years. My main focus is developing punching power. I mostly work one-on-one to help fighters learn the best technique they can. I'm also a qualified referee and judge.

I teach the MMA class and the morning classes as well as taking Personal Training sessions.
I like to make classes practical and fun.

I teach the kids class and work with people new to MTI, and really like to make the first block of 6 lessons fun while focusing on getting a solid grasp on the fundamental skills required to move up to the next group. We don't like to short cut basics and we keep it fun at the same time.

I run the power boxing class and am a pad holder for the Advanced class and fighters
